The first incident, with Julie's mother, is a torrid chain of events including attempted rape and eventual murder you can never quite see where it's going to end up, and the transformation of Paul Hubbard from likable sleaze into the major villain of the piece is an excellent one. This means that anyone else demanding her father's love in the same household is at risk of death. In reality, she's far too much in love with her own father, even going so far as to fantasise having sex with him in the film's most shocking dream sequence. Julie is a sweet 16 year old girl, at least on the outside. Instead, those viewers with an interest in warped psychology and the human condition will find themselves having a ball with this one. It's a slow moving film with little bursts of often shocking action, and not one for the modern multiplex audiences demanding a diet of chases and fist-fights every five minutes. This is one of those well-directed, slow burning horror/thrillers that seemed to proliferate in the late '70s/early '80s it reminds me, favourably, of the likes of THE GODSEND, BUTCHER BAKER NIGHTMARE MAKER, and THE SILENT PARTNER off the top of my head. With that said, there's enough weird moments that makes JULIE DARLING worth watching. Director Paul Nicholas brings no tension out of the material and I do think that the film gets a bit too far-fetched at times. The screenplay offers up an interesting idea and especially with the twists in the second half but there's no question that the film isn't as strong as one would have hoped. Her trying to make her voice seem "young" also didn't help matters. The filmmakers have her playing a really young girl and she just looks too old for the part. As far as Mejias goes, I think she's the weakest out of the performers but I don't blame her. If you a fan of Danning and her nudity then you'll be happy to know that it's here. Franciosa and Danning make for a good couple and I thought both of them were fine in the film. I thought the performances were good for the most part, or at least entertaining enough to keep you somewhat attached to the story. After all, check out THE FAN and see that this might have just been the norm there. Perhaps the fact that it was shot in West Germany explains why some of this weird stuff got into it.
JULIE DARLING MOVIE MOVIE
The other deals with a fantasy sequence that I won't spoil but there's no question that this wasn't the type of thing you'd normally see in a movie like this. One is the attack on her mother that she just watched because she's mad at her.

The film is most remembered for some very bizarre scenes where the daughter shows how crazy she is.

This one here seems to want to cross many disturbing lines but the only problem is that the screenplay isn't good enough to fully grab the viewer and take this into this world of a deranged mind. JULIE DARLING isn't the greatest movie that you're going to watch but the cast is rather interesting and I'd argue that there are enough good moments that make it worth sitting through if you like films that are willing to be a tad bit bizarre. A short time later daddy brings home Susan (Sybill Danning) and the two are quickly married, which sets Julie off again. In fact, this love is so strange that the daughter allows her mother to be murdered even though she could have stopped it. Miller (1971), for which she received her second Oscar nomination, Don’t Look Now (1973), Shampoo (1975), and Heaven Can Wait (1978).Julie Darling (1983) ** 1/2 (out of 4) Rather bizarre film has Anthony Franciosa playing Harold, a man whose daughter Julie (Isabelle Mejias) has a strange love for him. She kept on adding to her legacy by appearing in features like Fahrenheit 451 (1966), Far from the Madding Crowd (1967), Petulia (1968), The Go-Between (1971), McCabe & Mrs. She gained further recognition and spotlight for her performance in Darling (1965), for which she won the Academy Award for Best Actress following it up with Doctor Zhivago (also 1965), which ultimately became the eighth highest-grossing film of all time after adjustment for inflation. Her breakthrough part happened in the movie Billy Liar (1963). Her filmography consists of six movies that were ranked in the British Film Institute’s 100 greatest British films of the 20th century, and in 1997, she received the BAFTA Fellowship. Her list of achievements is very high and includes- an Academy Award, a Golden Globe Award, a BAFTA Award, and a Screen Actors Guild Award.

The actress is considered to be an extremely important figure of the “swinging London” era of the 1960s. Her achievements cannot be summarised in a few words. Julie Christie is one of the most influential actors of this century.
